Presentation:

Seaweed has always played an important role as a food. In addition to the traditional macromolecules (proteins, carbohydrates, oils), it contains many other molecules that contribute to a healthy and balanced diet. It will continue to play this role in the coming decades/centuries. These same molecules can and are increasingly being used in non-food applications. This concerns seaweed that is not suitable for human or animal food.

This lecture will be about the newer applications of seaweed as an alternative to petrochemical chemicals as fertilizer, packaging material, bio-stimulant, … or in the electronics industry.
